STATE HOUSE, ABUJA – President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has called on Nigerians to embrace sacrifice and resilience in the face of ongoing economic and security challenges, declaring that “a new dawn is on the horizon” in his 2026 Easter message to the nation.
In a statement released on Friday, the President rejoiced with Christians in Nigeria and worldwide, emphasizing the season’s core themes of crucifixion, resurrection, and the redemptive power of salvation. He drew a direct parallel between the Easter story and Nigeria’s current realities.
“This season reminds us of the significance of Easter and the message it embodies, of sacrifice, resilience, and the triumph of light over darkness,” Tinubu said. “For us in Nigeria, the essence resonates with our current realities as we navigate a period marked by economic strain and security challenges, even as determined efforts are underway to address them.”
The President acknowledged that security threats persist despite the “gallant efforts” of the Armed Forces, who he noted continue to leave their families behind to confront evil actors. He disclosed that his administration is actively forging foreign partnerships and making resources available to deal “decisive blows to the agents of terror and banditry.”
Tinubu referenced his visit to Jos on Thursday to commiserate with the people of Plateau State over recent tragedies, offering reassurances of better days. He also sought to comfort other parts of the country facing insecurity, stating that “concerted efforts are already yielding breakthroughs.”
Addressing the nation’s economic reforms, the President did not shy away from the immediate hardships but framed them as necessary for long-term prosperity.
“The ongoing reforms, though demanding in their immediate impact, have been carefully put together and backed by a strong commitment to take us to a shared prosperity,” he said. “As I have often said, true transformation cannot be achieved without sacrifice, and history affirms that enduring progress is often forged in moments such as these.”
With another electoral cycle approaching, Tinubu issued a pointed call for civic maturity, urging that the Electoral Act guide the conduct of all political parties and actors. He stressed that democracy flourishes where responsibility, restraint, and informed participation prevail.
“Let our choices be guided by a shared commitment to peace, continuity, stability, and the long-term good of our country,” he said.
Acknowledging public frustration over present conditions, the President pointed to improving economic indicators as evidence that his administration is making the right choices. He thanked Nigerians for their continued trust and support.
“Fellow Nigerians, you have been very supportive of my administration because you trust our ability to make our nation better,” Tinubu concluded. “I will continue to serve to retain your trust. I enjoin you to keep the faith, and never cease to contribute to the progress and greater future we seek.”
The President wished all citizens a Happy Easter.
