PERSPECTIVE – President Tinubu: An Open Letter on Your Failure to Secure Nigeria

PERSPECTIVE – President Tinubu: An Open Letter on Your Failure to Secure Nigeria

By Abraham Maina Joda

In April, during the Easter period, at least 26 Nigerians—including worshippers—were killed in attacks across Benue, Borno, and Kaduna. In Niger State, over 20 more were killed in village raids.

Mr. President, between January and April 2026, Nigeria has recorded at least 460 to 500 deaths from major incidents alone. The real number is far higher.

This is happening under your leadership.

The violence is no longer isolated—it is widespread, coordinated, and emboldened. From Boko Haram and ISWAP insurgency in the Northeast, to banditry in the Northwest, to killings in the Northcentral, the Nigerian state is losing control.

Mr. President, you are known as a master strategist. But where is that strategy now?

You have shown remarkable skill in politics—building alliances, consolidating power, and neutralizing opposition. But governance is not politics. Leadership is not about winning elections; it is about protecting lives.

Right now, Nigerians do not feel protected. You campaigned on the promise of security. You swore an oath to defend the lives of Nigerians. On that core duty, you have fallen short.

Painfully short.

The reality is that Nigerians are being killed in large numbers, and your government’s response has not matched the urgency, scale, or seriousness of the crisis. There is no clear, decisive, and effective national strategy visible to the people.

Mr. President, this is not the time for political calculations or future elections. This is the time for leadership.

Every day this continues, more lives are lost. Every delay deepens the perception that the government is either overwhelmed or unwilling to act decisively.

History will judge this moment.

You have succeeded in politics. But in the duty that matters most—the protection of Nigerian lives—you are failing.

This must change, and it must change now.

Mr. President, enough is enough.
Yours faithfully,
