ASABA, Nigeria – The Delta State Capital Territory Development Agency (DSCTDA) has launched an intensive environmental cleanup along the Asaba–Ibusa Expressway, rolling out heavy machinery and sanitation crews to prepare the state capital for the upcoming Delta State Economic Summit.

The exercise, which began on Thursday, is part of a broader strategy to present a clean, safe, and inviting atmosphere for delegates, investors, and dignitaries expected to arrive for the summit scheduled from Sunday, August 2, to Wednesday, August 5, 2026.

Operations along the busy corridor include the desilting of sand from the tarred road surface, the removal of illegal refuse dumps, street sweeping, litter collection, and the evacuation of all debris to government-approved disposal sites.

Speaking during a monitoring exercise on Friday, the Director General of DSCTDA, Mr. Patrick Ukah, personally supervised the operations alongside the Agency’s Manager of Administration, Mr. Vincent Okwofadgeke. Mr. Ukah reaffirmed the Agency’s commitment to ensuring Asaba remains aesthetically pleasing and environmentally secure as the state gears up to host the high-profile economic forum.

“We are leaving no stone unturned to ensure that our capital city reflects the progress and pride of Delta State,” Mr. Ukah stated. “We want our visitors to see a city that is not only ready for business but also committed to high environmental standards.”

In addition to the physical cleanup, the Agency conducted a sensitisation programme at the bustling Koka Interchange. Led by the Manager of Corporate Affairs, Ms. Ngozi Peters, the outreach engaged residents, traders, and road users on the importance of proper waste management. Officials handed out advice on maintaining clean surroundings and discouraged the indiscriminate dumping of refuse.

The Head of Environment, Mr. Isaac Nwosu, provided continuous oversight of field operations to ensure strict adherence to sanitation standards.

While the immediate focus is on the summit, the DSCTDA urged residents to view cleanliness as a shared responsibility and to sustain proper sanitation practices long after the event concludes, preserving the environmental integrity of the state capital for the future.
