Delta Speaker’s aide, wife hailed as ‘outstanding parents’ at son’s graduation

Benin City, Edo State – It was a moment of pride and emotion at Immaculate Conception College on Saturday, as the Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Nkem Nwaeke, and his wife, Mrs. Mary Nwaeke, received a special award for their dedication to the all-boys Catholic institution.

The couple was named “Outstanding Parents” for the 2025/2026 Academic Session during the school’s graduation ceremony. The honor was presented by the College Principal, Most Rev. Fr. Anthony Ekhaisomi, as their 16-year-old son, Michael Nosike Nkem-Nwaeke, walked the stage among the graduating class.

Presenting the award, Fr. Ekhaisomi praised the Nwaekes’ unwavering commitment to the college’s growth and success, noting that this was not their first child to pass through the school.

“The Nwaekes have two sons. The first graduated from this college two years ago and the last one is among the graduating students today,” Fr. Ekhaisomi stated. “This couple has always been there anytime they were called upon. Their interest and commitment to academic excellence, moral development, and the growth of the college has been outstanding.”

The citation for the award commended the pair for their exemplary parental partnership in education.

Two other couples—Dr. Peter and Mrs. Cynthia Agbonrofo, and Mr. Mike and Mrs. MaryJane Omofese—were also recognized for their active involvement in school life, drawing applause from parents, staff, and students alike.

The graduation ceremony, which celebrated the achievements of the 2025/2026 class, was attended by dignitaries, alumni, and well-wishers from across the state.
