Delta State to hold security summit as Govt seeks collective action against crime

Asaba, Nigeria – The Delta State Government has announced plans to convene a high-level security summit on June 17, 2026, as it moves to strengthen collaboration among stakeholders in the fight against rising criminality and terrorism.

The Delta State Security Summit 2026, themed “Security: A Collective Responsibility,” is scheduled to take place at the Unity Hall, Government House, Asaba, starting at 10:00 a.m. Governor Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori will host the event, which aims to forge a united front against threats to public safety.

According to a statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Dr. Kingsley Emu, the gathering will bring together a broad spectrum of participants, including security chiefs, representatives of the Armed Forces, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC). Also invited are local government chairmen, traditional rulers, religious leaders, community youth leaders, transport unions, and market women associations.

Dr. Emu underscored that the summit reflects the administration’s commitment to inclusive engagement, emphasizing that security is a shared duty that demands active participation from government institutions, security agencies, community leaders, and ordinary citizens.

“The summit underscores our resolve to foster a safer Delta through collective action,” Dr. Emu stated. He noted that the forum is expected to reinforce ongoing efforts by security agencies and community-based groups to tackle emerging threats, while charting a common course against terrorism, criminality, and other dangers.

The announcement comes amid renewed calls for greater cooperation among security stakeholders, with the state government urging all invited attendees to contribute meaningfully to discussions aimed at strengthening the security architecture and promoting sustainable peace across Delta.
