In the name of God, resign now, HURIWA begs to Buhari

Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA) has pleaded with President Muhammadu Buhari to resign for allegedly violating the Federal Character principle, which is in the Constitution that he swore to uphold.

HURIWA raised the alarm that Nigeria was drifting into a huge ungoverned space requiring the joint action of world leaders and the United Nations (UN) to stave off the imminent collapse of the country over the expanding frontiers of terrorism in the North West.

In a statement Monday in Abuja, the National Coordinator, Emmanuel Onwubiko, and the National Media Affairs Director, Miss Zainab Yusuf, noted: “Since 2015, the nation has increasingly become one huge ungoverned space, following the abdication of constitutional functions by the President and the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Muhammadu Buhari, who has rather chosen to focus on promoting the primordial agenda of religion and ethnicity.”

HURIWA believes that the terrorists are becoming much more daring because of the body language of those in control of the political power in Abuja, and that persons who share same ethno-religious orientation head all the strategic positions in the internal security architecture.

“President Buhari does not believe in Federal Character in the appointment of security chiefs. Since his persistent and serial nepotistic appointments in the last six years has brought the nation to a near failed state, the next best option is to plead with him, in the name of God, to resign honourably,” it stated.

The group spoke against the backdrop of incessant kidnapping of citizens by mostly armed Fulani militia, who seem to be enjoying the Federal Government’s protection through deliberate inaction and ‘audio/fake military attacks in the forests’ following the refusal of Buhari to classify them as terrorists and to direct the armed forces of Nigeria to sweep them off the deep forests of Zamfara, Kaduna and Niger states.
