Kekere-Ekun who read judgment declaring Hope Uzodinma Governor denied visa by US Govt

Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, the judge who read the January 14, 2020 Supreme Court judgment in the controversial Imo governorship election has been denied visa to the United States, a document quoted by DAILY INDEPENDENT has revealed.

It would be recalled that a seven-man panel of the Supreme Court led by former Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Ibrahim Muhammad Tanko had nullified the governorship election of Emeka Ihedioha of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and declared Hope Uzodinma of the All Progressives Congress (APC) who came a distant 4th, as the rightful winner of the exercise.

In a most bizarre judgment which Nigerians are yet to reconcile, the court also ordered INEC to withdraw the certificate of return issued to Ihedioha and give a fresh one to Uzodinma who was then sworn in as the sixth governor of Imo State on January 15 2020.

In the letter of rejection to Justice Kekere-Ekun which was signed by Jay M. Sorensen, American Consular officer at Abuja, the US authorities said she was denied visa based on “sanctioned activities”.

Former Cross River Governor, Donald Duke had on Wednesday said the US authorities rejected the visa application of some judges who were planning to attend a Judges Conference in the United States.
