Oborevwori to open DELCOM 2026 as Delta trains communicators for digital challenges

ASABA – Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, will on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, declare open the 7th edition of the Delta State Strategic Communication Workshop (DELCOM 2026), a flagship annual capacity-building programme designed to strengthen the professional competence of media and communication personnel in the state .

The three-day workshop, holding at Hotel Benizia in Asaba, is themed: “DIGITAL COMMUNICATION AND CRISIS MANAGEMENT: BUILDING TRUST AND CREDIBILITY FOR DEMOCRATIC GOVERNANCE” .

The State Coordinator of DELCOM and Director-General of the Delta State Bureau for Orientation and Communications, Olorogun Fred Latimore Oghenesivbe, Esq., said the workshop reflects Governor Oborevwori’s commitment to continuous human capital development, professional excellence, and effective communication of government policies, programmes, and achievements .

Oghenesivbe said DELCOM has evolved into a strategic platform for sharpening the skills of media aides to the Governor, media partners, information officers, and Public Relations Officers of government ministries, departments, and agencies across Delta State .

According to Oghenesivbe, the programme is a deliberate investment by the State Government in building a skilled and responsive communication architecture capable of strengthening public trust, promoting accountability, and improving citizen engagement. He noted that the growing influence of digital platforms, artificial intelligence, misinformation, and rapidly evolving media technologies makes continuous professional development essential for government communicators .

The Bureau Chief further stated that the 7th edition would equip participants with practical knowledge and contemporary communication tools for navigating the changing media environment, with sessions covering digital communication, strategic media relations, reputation and crisis management, peace journalism, public information management, and effective message development. He added that the programme would also provide opportunities for professional interaction, knowledge sharing, and peer learning .

He disclosed that communication scholars and professionals, including Professor Presley Obukadata, Professor Joyce Ogwezi, and Dr. Rita Abamba, would serve as trainers at the 2026 edition, while the Honourable Commissioner for Works (Rural) and Public Information, Mr Charles Aniagwu, will be the Chief Host of DELCOM 2026 . Oghenesivbe said the resource persons were selected for their expertise and experience, adding that the practical orientation of the workshop would enable participants to strengthen their professional capacity and communicate more responsibly and effectively .

Oghenesivbe commended Governor Oborevwori for approving and supporting the 7th edition, describing DELCOM as a strategic intervention in institutional capacity building and public-sector professionalism. He expressed confidence that the workshop would further strengthen Delta State’s strategic communication capacity to enhance democratic governance .
