Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, on Monday reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to tackling unemployment through aggressive infrastructural development and strategic collaboration with construction firms operating in the state.
The governor gave the assurance while addressing workers at the Julius Berger Nigeria Plc project site in Osubi, Okpe Local Government Area, where he stressed that creating jobs and improving livelihoods remained central to his administration’s development agenda.
Oborevwori lamented the growing economic hardship confronting many families, noting that limited opportunities had pushed many young people into despair, a situation he said government must urgently address through impactful projects and empowerment initiatives.
“There are many challenges facing our people today, especially unemployment and economic hardship. Too many of our young people are giving up because opportunities are limited. That is why we must continue to create jobs, empower our youths, and ensure that development reaches every community,” the governor stated.
He praised contractors and workers handling various projects across the state for their contributions to community development, adding that sincere efforts geared towards progress deserved public support.
The governor disclosed that his administration would continue to engage Julius Berger with more projects as part of efforts to deepen infrastructural renewal and expand employment opportunities across Warri, Effurun and other parts of Delta State.
According to him, the reconstruction of the Effurun Roundabout to NPA axis has already been awarded to Julius Berger in line with his administration’s urban renewal drive within the Warri/Effurun metropolis.
Oborevwori also commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for economic reforms aimed at repositioning the nation’s economy, saying the policies had boosted revenue accruing to states and enabled governments to execute projects and pay workers’ salaries promptly.
He called on workers and stakeholders to sustain their support for the Tinubu administration and candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 elections, insisting that continuity would guarantee more democratic dividends for Nigerians.
Speaking on ongoing infrastructure projects, the governor revealed that the completed Trans Warri-Ode Itsekiri Roads and Bridges project would not be inaugurated until the Ubeji-Ifie Road is completed.
“We are determined to complete important projects across the state, including roads, bridges and other critical infrastructure. Some of these projects may not yet be completed, but work is ongoing, and when they are completed, the people will enjoy the full benefits,” he said.
Oborevwori expressed appreciation to workers and supporters for their dedication to the state’s development drive, assuring that his administration would remain focused on policies and projects that directly impact the lives of the people.
He also prayed for God’s protection over workers, residents and road users across the state, expressing confidence that the ongoing projects would stand as lasting symbols of progress and development in Delta State.
