Ochor Ochor wins Ukwuani Assembly seat, extends a hand of fellowship to opponents

Christopher Ochor Ochor of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has won the Ukwuani seat in the State House of Assembly elections held yesterday, March 9, 2019.

Declaring the result of the election, the Independent National Electoral Commission, Local Government Collation Officer, Prof Victor Okonji, from University of Benin, pronounced Christopher Ochor Ochor the winner having scored a total vote count of 17,536 to defeat his closest rival, Mr Eze Omolu of the All Progressive Congress, APC, who scored 7, 172 votes.

Reacting to the announcement, Ochor Ochor, thanked the people of Ukwuani for voting for PDP, and promised he will keep to his promises of giving the people of Ukwuani good representation once the seventh Assembly resumes.

Speaking shortly after he was declared the winner of the Ukwuani House of Assembly constituency seat, at the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, office, Obiaruku, Ochor Ochor said that the re-election victory of the PDP in the LGA, for Governor Ifeanyi Okowa’s and that of the state house of Assembly is to continue with the SMART Agenda programme of this government.

“I have to first of all thank God, and the people of Ukwuani for voting for the Peoples Democratic Party candidates. As I had promised that I will give them good representation. They should expect it.

“The victory of the PDP in Ukwuani, means more dividends of democracy will come to the area, as I will join His Excellency, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa to pursue the SMART Agenda of the government,” Ochor Ochor said.

Meanwhile, in the spirit of sportsmanship, he extended a hand of fellowship to his opponents to join him for the good of the local government.

While congratulating the other candidates for bracing the odd of electioneering, he said it’s time to move the area forward, and it will be better for all to join hands in pushing for the development of the area.

“For my co-candidates, I congratulate them for the courage to contest. However, this is the time for us to think Ukwuani first. So I implore them to join hands with me for the future of our area,” he said.

Meanwhile, the governorship candidate of the PDP, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, scored a total of 18, 328 to defeat that of the All Progressive Congress, APC, Chief Great Ogboru, who scored 7,264 Votes.

The general result also saw the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, defeating the running mate of Great Ovadje Ogboru, Mr. Ossai Abeh, and APC House of Assembly candidate, Mr. Eze Omolu who lost in their units and wards respectively.
The score at the Ward 9 and 10, the home base of the duo shows that, in Ward 9, the APC scored 1526 at the governorship vote counts, as against that of PDP’s 2076, while for the house of Assembly contest, APC scored 1489, while PDP, scored 1818. At ward 10, the APC scored 1357, as against PDP, 2518, at the House of Assembly, the APC scored 1273, while the PDP scored 2369.
