The Chairman, National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) Ika South Chapter, Comrade Christian Izegede, has appealed to protesters agitating for good governance to remain peaceful, assuring that their legitimate demands will receive prompt attention from the appropriate quarters.

Comrade Izekede who made the appeal in a chat with newsmen at Agbor while condemning the unwarranted extortion and stealing perpetuated by some faceless miscreants bent on discrediting the peaceful protest in the metropolis, noted that Ika youths were known to be focused and peace-loving.

“Please my fellow comrades, you can’t steal, extort from a commoner like you in the name of protest, our legitimate aim will be defeated. This is the height of wickedness, those goats, chickens and other items doesn’t belong to Government. Again, in the course of this protest we must avoid whatsoever thing that will lead to death of a soul in Ika Land. No blood must be spilled,” he asid.

According to him, “As we demand for positive changes in our society, we must be guided not to allow this movement to be hijack by hoodlums thereby giving Ika youths bad image.”

He commended Governor Ifeanyi Okowa for being the first governor in Nigeria to setup and inaugurate panel of enquiry as well as the establishment of victim support fund.

Continuing, the youth leader described the alleged wanton killing of unarmed end SARS protesters at Lekki Lagos State as barbaric and unacceptable.

“Security agencies must desist from the act of using weapons to attack innocent youths who are protesting for an end to police brutality, bad governance and molestation in the country,” he said and appealed that measures should be put in place to avert further death.

While commiserating with the families that lost dear ones as a result of police brutality and protest across the nation, he called on government at all levels to address Nigerians on the way forward.

“The demands of the youths are in summary, as follows, good governance, purposeful and quality representation, improved social amenities, quality education, improved health care system, revive all ailing industries and build more for job creation, reduced inflation, total restructuring of the nation etc,” he added, maintaining that Nigerian youths were not lazy and not sleeping.

“It is youth o’clock. Nigeria belongs to all of us. It has now been shown that we have the capacity to make the changes we desire, but we must be guided not to allow dubious leaders to use us against ourselves. An injury to one is an injury to all,” he said.
