CLO condemns Sowore’s arrest, Delta calm, says Compol

Mr. Omoyele Sowore

The Civil Liberties Organisation (CLO) South-South Chairman, Mr. Chinedu Uchegu has condemned the arrest and detention of the civil rights activist, Mr. Omoyele Sowore, with a call for his immediate release.
Uchegbu, decrying the arrest of Sowore said in Asaba, the Delta state capital through phone call said the arrest is uncalled for, unconstitutional as it is a violation of the constitutional right of Sowore freedom of speech, assembly and association. “You cannot arrest him for speaking out what he believes in. We condemn his arrest and call for his immediate release,” the CLO South-South Chairman said.
In answer to a question, Mr. Uchegbu said CLO was not part of the Revolution Now protest because the CLO was not consulted, pointing out that if anyone said he was fighting for the cause of Nigerians then there ought to be adequate consultation. “We cannot be part of what we were not consulted,” he said.
However, he agreed that the protest was necessary given the state of insecurity and other issues affecting the nation.
Meanwhile, the Police Command in Delta State has described the situation in Delta State as peaceful and calm.
Commissioner of Police, Mr. Adeyinka Adeleke speaking to journalists on phone said there was no protest anywhere in Delta state, and that every where was “calm and secure.”
He said the Command was very much at alert to contain any situation that may arise.
