APC accused of ‘political land grab” as PDP demands Immediate vacation of seized secretariat in Asaba

The Delta State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has launched a blistering attack on the state leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC), demanding the immediate vacation of what it described as its “illegally occupied” secretariat in Asaba.

In a strongly worded statement dated April 14, the PDP, through its Publicity Secretary, Kingsley Akpo’s Oturubo, insisted that the disputed property, located on WAEC Road, off Mariam Babangida Way, remains the exclusive asset of the party, backed by valid ownership documents.

The party dismissed any claim by the APC as baseless, stressing that the building predates the very existence of the ruling party, thereby exposing what it called a brazen act of political trespass.

According to the PDP, it is both “curious and unlawful” that the APC, which already operates a functional secretariat on Anwai Road, would allegedly seize and rebrand another party’s facility in its colours, raising serious questions about abuse of power and political overreach.

The statement took direct aim at the APC State Chairman, Solomon Areyenka, accusing him of lacking any legal authority to occupy or use PDP assets, particularly as a defector who no longer has ties to the party.

Reaffirming the leadership of Peter Mrakpor, the PDP declared that its structure in the state remains intact and under legitimate control, dismissing any insinuations to the contrary.

In a more explosive claim, the opposition party accused the Delta State Government of backing the alleged takeover, describing the move as a calculated attempt to cripple the PDP ahead of the 2027 elections. It linked the development to broader political maneuvers surrounding the influence of Nyesom Wike, alleging a coordinated effort to weaken opposition strongholds.

Warning of imminent legal action, the PDP vowed to deploy every lawful means to reclaim what it insists is its rightful property. It also sounded a note of caution, declaring that any breakdown of law and order resulting from the standoff should be squarely blamed on the APC leadership and the state authorities.

The party further raised alarm over alleged financial impropriety, claiming that some defectors who have joined the APC are still operating PDP bank accounts. It revealed that anti-graft agencies have been notified to investigate and recover any diverted funds.

Despite the escalating tensions, the PDP urged its members to remain calm and law-abiding, even as it condemned what it described as creeping attempts to impose a one-party state in Delta.

Insisting that democracy must not be strangled, the party expressed confidence in its grassroots strength, declaring that it remains firmly positioned to reclaim its political mandates in future elections across the state.
