
ASABA – Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, has commended the State Police Command for the arrest of two suspected electric cable vandals, describing the operation as a major victory in safeguarding critical public assets.
In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ahon, the governor praised Commissioner of Police Yemi Oyeniyi and his officers for their swift response and unwavering commitment to combating crimes against government facilities. He also lauded local vigilantes for their collaboration with security agencies.
“This arrest demonstrates our resolve to protect public assets and ensure that investments in infrastructure continue to serve Deltans without disruption,” Oborevwori said.
The police, through its Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, reported that operatives from the Kwale Police Station, acting on intelligence, raided the Ibabu–Ugiliamai Road on June 25, 2026, where suspects were dismantling electric cables. The alleged vandals, Osakwe Sunday, 28, and Ekene Obocha, 34, tried to flee but were apprehended. One suspect sustained injuries and is hospitalised, while the other remains in custody. Recovered cables were retained as exhibits.
The governor urged residents to continue supplying timely information to security forces and reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to maintaining a safe environment.
Meanwhile, CP Oyeniyi warned criminals to desist from destroying public infrastructure, vowing that the command will identify, arrest, and prosecute offenders. He appealed for sustained public cooperation in volunteering intelligence to prevent crime and ensure justice.
