Delta Police makes big haul of armed bandits; nabs killers of Barrister Festus Ashiedu; bandits terrorizing Igbodo, Ekwuoma

Compol Zanna Ibrahim, Delta Police Command Boss

The dogged resolve of the Delta state Police command under the leadership of the commissioner of Police (COMPOL) Mr. Zanna M. Ibrahim has continued to pay off with suspected armed robbers operating in various locations across the state.
Of a total of nine armed robbery suspects arrested are the bandits who shot dead Barrister Festus Ashiedu, and another group of bandits who have been terrorizing the Igbodo and Ekwuoma communities in the Ika Local Government area of the State.
ComPol Ibrahim accompanied by two of his Deputy Commissioners of Police that included Mrs. Ngozi Onadeko of the finance and administration told journalists at a press conference in the Command headquarters on Okpanam Road, Asaba where the suspects were paraded said that investigation following the arrest of suspected killers of Barrister Festus Ashiedu was a case of armed robbery and not assassination.
The ComPol identified the suspects as: Ignatius Obagha ‘M’, aka “IG”, 34 years, of Ogbeozoma Qtrs Okpanam; Obed Ikenna Oluchi ‘M’, 23 years of No. 36, Chinedu Eze street, off Agric Road, Asaba; Mustapha Ali aka “babayo” ‘M’, 28 years of Abraka Market, Asaba; Ifeanyi Aniekwe ‘M’, 24 yeas of Ogbaru Town, Anambra State and Ifeanyi Nwosu ‘M’, 23 years of No. 36 Chinedu Eze street, off Agric Road, Asaba.
Compol Ibrahim while also identifying the victim of the suspects as Mr. Amobi Molokwu ‘M’, of behind Cirner Stone Inrnational School, Okpanam Road, Asaba also revealed the facts of the case. He said: “On 01/07/2017, at about 19.30 hours, unknown armed men numbering about five attempted to kidnap on Mr. Amobi Molokwu ‘M’ in front of his house gate behind Corner Stone International School, off Okpanam Road, Asaba but he narrowly escaped. The hoodlums succeeded in robbing him of his Rav 4Jeep with registration number ASB 178 AV, his phones, cash and other valuables.
“Intel gathered technologically led to the arrest of Ignatius Obagha in whose possession the victim’s Infinixphone was recovered. The suspect confessed to the crime and mentioned his cohorts as Obed Ikenna Oluchi, Ifeanyi Aniekwe, Ifeany Nwosu and Mustapha Ali aka ‘Babayo’ both in custody and others now at large.
“The syndicate confessed to most car robberies/kidnapping within Asaba/Okpanam and their environs. Obed Ikenna Oluchi, alongside one other now at large confessed to the robbery operation at Globe Supermarket, Okpanam Road and the murder of Barrister Festus Ashiedu on 27/07/2017. Trail of other fleeing gang members/ recovery of the Rav 4 Jeep is on course. Suspects are undergoing investigation,” Compol Ibrahim stated.
He therefore used the opportunity of the Press Conference to dispel insinuations and claims that late Barrister Festus Ashiedu was assasinated. He said: “On 27/07/2017, one Barrister Festus Ashiedu was shot dead by unknown gunmen at Globe Supermarket, Okpanam. However, through the prompt and discreet investigation by detectives, the killers of the lawyer have been nabbed and are undergoing investigation.
“From the confession of one of the robbery suspects, Obed Ikenna Oluchi ‘M’, 23 years of No. 36, Chinedu Eze Street, off Agric Road, Asaba, the late lawyer was killed by his group and not by hired assasins as speculated by some sections of the media. Needless to state that this once again reinforces our pleas that utmost restraint and maturity be exercised in the dissemination of information to the public, so that we do not inadvertently feed them with half baked stories.”
On the arrest of three suspected armed robbers laying siege to Igbodo and Ekwuoma communities, Compol Ibrahim identified the suspects as Osaro Ngemagwai, ‘M, aged 25, Emeka Augustine ‘M’, aged 24 years, and Ifeanyi Kelvin ‘M’ aged 25 years, all of Ekwuoma Community in Ika North East LGA of Delta State. He revealed that one locally made double barrel gun and one live cartridge was recovered from the suspects as exhibits.
He then gave the facts of the case as follows: “On 27/7/2017, at about 05:15 hours, SARS operatives based in Agbor while acting on an information about the activities of a robbery gang terrorizing Igbodo community and Ekwuoma area of Ika North East LGA of Delta State, laid ambush and while the armed robbers were returning from their operation, had an encounter with the operatives and firing ensued. The robbers escaped into the bush and abandoned one locally made double barrel gun with one live cartridge. They were trailed and later arrested and have confessed to the crime.
“Investigatio into the case is still ongoing,” Compol Ibrahim stated
