Peter Obi celebrates Obi of Onitsha at 85, hails monarch’s leadership legacy

Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, has joined millions of Nigerians and admirers across the country in celebrating the Obi of Onitsha, His Majesty Igwe Nnaemeka Alfred Achebe, CFR, on the occasion of his 85th birthday.

In a message shared on his X handle, Obi described the revered monarch as a symbol of dignity, wisdom, humility, and responsible leadership whose reign has continued to promote peace, moral values, cultural preservation, and national development.

According to Obi, the traditional ruler’s life and leadership remain a strong reminder that true leadership is rooted in character, discipline, compassion, and selfless service to humanity.

He noted that at a time when societal values are increasingly under pressure, the Obi of Onitsha has continued to stand out as a moral compass and a bridge between tradition and modern nation-building.

Obi further praised the monarch’s distinguished professional background before ascending the throne, saying the royal father has demonstrated that excellence, integrity, and patriotism can coexist in leadership.

“His Majesty remains a shining symbol of dignity, intellect, humility, and selfless service. His reign has continued to demonstrate that traditional institutions are not relics of the past, but vital pillars for peace, moral leadership, cultural preservation, and national development,” Obi stated.

The former Anambra State governor prayed for God to grant the monarch good health, wisdom, peace, and strength to continue serving humanity.

“Happy 85th Birthday, Your Majesty. May your reign continue to flourish in peace, honour, and greatness,” he added.

Igwe Nnaemeka Achebe, one of Nigeria’s most respected traditional rulers, has been widely celebrated for his contributions to national development, cultural advancement, and advocacy for good governance.
