ABUJA — Vice Presidential Candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has distanced himself from a purported protest being circulated on social media, warning Nigerians against falling for what he described as deliberate misinformation aimed at misleading the public.
In a statement issued on Monday, the former Kano State governor dismissed claims that he was mobilising supporters for a nationwide protest over the worsening security situation in the country, stressing that neither he nor the NDC had endorsed any such action.
Kwankwaso said the viral message was false and should be disregarded, emphasizing that he remains committed to peaceful and democratic means of addressing the nation’s challenges.
“Our attention has been drawn to a message currently circulating on social media falsely claiming that we are planning a protest over the rising insecurity in the country,” the statement read.
The NDC vice-presidential candidate warned against actions capable of triggering a breakdown of law and order, insisting that responsible leadership demands constructive engagement rather than activities that could endanger lives and property.
“We do not support any action that could lead to the breakdown of public order or the destruction of lives and property. As responsible leaders, we remain committed to peaceful and constructive approaches in addressing national challenges,” he stated.
Kwankwaso reaffirmed his faith in Nigeria’s democratic process, declaring that elections remain the most legitimate avenue for citizens to express dissatisfaction and effect political change.
He expressed confidence that the NDC would secure victory in the forthcoming elections through lawful and peaceful democratic participation.
“As committed democrats, we firmly believe that the ballot box remains the most legitimate and effective way to express grievances and seek change. Our party, the NDC, is confident of securing a resounding victory in the upcoming elections through peaceful democratic means,” he said.
The former governor urged Nigerians to ignore individuals and groups spreading the false narrative, describing the report as disinformation designed to create confusion and tension in the polity.
He called on supporters and members of the public to remain law-abiding and focused on the democratic process as the country prepares for the next round of elections.
The statement was signed by Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, former Governor of Kano State and Vice Presidential Candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).
